If You Cannot Log In
If you have lost access to your account (forgotten password, lost email access, or other reasons), you can request deletion by email:
Send to: legal@hytalemagazine.com
Subject line: Account Deletion Request
Include: the email address associated with your account and your username, so we can locate your account.
Identity verification: we will send a confirmation to the email address on file. If you no longer have access to that email, we may ask you to provide additional information to verify your identity (such as your registration date or recent activity).
Response time: we aim to respond within 7 days. The same 14-day deletion period applies from the date we confirm your request.
The 14-Day Cancellation Window
When you request deletion, the following happens immediately:
You are logged out.
Your profile and content are hidden from other users.
Your account is marked for deletion.
For the next 14 days, you can change your mind by simply logging in. This cancels the deletion, restores your account, and makes your content visible again.
Why 14 days? This grace period protects you from accidental deletion, from unauthorized deletion if someone gains access to your account, and gives you time to reconsider.
After 14 days, the deletion is carried out automatically and is irreversible. At that point:
Your email, password hash, profile information, support tickets, and verification data are permanently deleted.
Your user content is anonymized (authorship replaced by "Deleted User") and becomes visible again in the community feed without any link to your former account. If you do not want your content to reappear, request full removal by contacting legal@hytalemagazine.com before the 14-day window expires.
The link between your content and your account is irreversibly broken in our production systems at this point. Backup copies may still contain the association for up to 30 days while backups rotate out; data is not restored from backups after deletion.
What Happens to Your Data
| Category | What Happens | When |
|---|---|---|
| Email and login credentials | Permanently deleted, including the authentication record in our system | After the 14-day window |
| Profile information (nickname, avatar, optional fields) | Permanently deleted | After the 14-day window |
| Verification requests (application and associated handle) | Permanently deleted | After the 14-day window |
| Support tickets (your messages and our replies) | Permanently deleted upon account deletion or 12 months after ticket closure, whichever occurs first | After the 14-day window |
| Product analytics (views and shares linked to your account) | The link between the data and your account is irreversibly broken; aggregate statistics are retained | After the 14-day window |
| IP address data (rate-limiting logs) | Already deleted on a rolling basis (7 days) regardless of account deletion | Ongoing |
| Session cookies | Invalidated at logout when deletion is initiated | Immediately |
| User content (posts, text, images) | See below | After the 14-day window |
User Content
When you delete your account, the link between your content and your account is irreversibly broken. Your authorship is replaced by "Deleted User." Your nickname, avatar, and all identifying information are removed from your posts. The content itself stays because it is part of community discussions that other users contributed to.
Note that the text or images within your posts may still contain information that identifies you regardless of authorship removal.
If you want your content fully removed in addition to the above, contact legal@hytalemagazine.com before or after initiating deletion and we will remove it.
Underage accounts. If we close an account because the user is below the minimum age (see our Privacy Policy, Section 4), all user content is permanently deleted, not anonymized. This is an exception to the process described above.
Content in Editorial Materials
If your user content was incorporated into a published editorial article or feature of Hytale Magazine before your deletion request, that editorial material may be retained. This is described in our Terms of Use, Section 3.3. Editorial materials are published works in which your contribution has been combined with editorial commentary and other content.
Retention of such content is based on Article 17(3)(a) GDPR: the processing is necessary for exercising the right to freedom of expression and information. This exception applies narrowly to content already published in editorial materials before the deletion request. It does not cover user content in the community feed.
Content Seen by Others
Once you post something publicly, other users may have seen, quoted, shared, or screenshotted it. We can delete your content from our servers, but we cannot delete copies that other people have already made outside the Service. Search engines may also have cached your public content; removal from search engine caches is not within our control.
Backup Copies
The link between your content and your account is irreversibly broken in our production systems when deletion is carried out. Our server backups, which are created independently, may still contain your data (including the original association between content and account) for a limited period. Backups are overwritten on a rolling cycle of 30 days. Your data is not restored from backups after deletion. Once backups rotate out, no copies of the association remain.
Legal Retention
In rare cases, we may be required by law to retain specific records (for example, if we receive a valid legal hold or regulatory request). If this applies to your data, we will retain only what is legally required, for only as long as required, and will inform you where permitted.
Your GDPR Rights
Deleting your account is one way to exercise your right to erasure under GDPR Article 17. Account deletion does not limit your other rights:
Access and export (Art. 15, 20): use the data export feature before initiating deletion.
Rectification (Art. 16): correct your data before or instead of deleting.
Objection and restriction (Art. 21, 18): you can object to specific processing without deleting your entire account.
For any data protection request, contact legal@hytalemagazine.com. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
